PMI physician returns to the practice he volunteered at as a teen.

For Joshua Chou, M.D., joining Providence in 2020 was a little like coming home. When he was a teenager, Dr. Chou volunteered at what is now Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro, and that experience helped him decide on a career in health care.

“I chose family medicine because I like treating patients of all ages and medical conditions,” says Dr. Chou. “I also enjoy developing strong relationships with patients and their families. I have a clinical interest in preventative medicine because I want to prevent disease. I believe in doing what’s best for my patients so they live healthy, fulfilling lives.”

Dr. Chou has been in medicine since 2017. Prior to joining Providence, Dr. Chou was completing his family medicine residency at Montclair Hospital. “I desired to be a part of a growing health care system whose mission was to serve everybody,” he notes. He opted to work at Providence Family Medical Center in Redondo Beach because he wanted to support the community in which he grew up.

When he is not seeing patients, Dr. Chou serves on the Patient Experience Committee. He has also taken part in medical mission trips to Mexico and volunteered at Camp Escapades, a summer camp for children with special needs and developmental delays.

“I enjoy playing competitive tennis and video games,” Dr. Chou says of his time off. And when he decides to take a vacation? “My favorite destination is Hawaii.”
