Giving Hope To Those Who Need It Most
Glendale native Dr. Wong brings comfort to cancer patients in Burbank
Karlton Wong, M.D., started in September as a medical oncologist and hematologist at the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. Dr. Wong graduated from USC Keck School of Medicine in 2014, finished his internal medicine residency at LAC+USC Medical Center in 2017, and completed his hematology oncology fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2020.
“I pursued hematology and oncology because I want to be there and care for patients when they face the difficult and at times scary diagnosis of cancer,” Dr. Wong states. “I am passionate in not only providing state of the art, evidence-based care, but I want to provide my patients with comfort and hope during their trying times.”
Dr. Wong sees patients in the outpatient clinic at the Disney Family Cancer Center and provides hematology/oncology inpatient consultations for patients with any blood related problems and solid organ tumors. He has a particular interest in breast, colon, lung, prostate, melanoma, kidney, bladder and liver cancers. He also is involved in clinical research at the Disney Family Cancer Center and serves on all the regional tumor boards.
“I joined Providence because this organization’s Mission aligns with my own in providing patients with quality and holistic medical care,” he says. “I always try my best to include patients and their loved ones in the patient’s care and in the decision-making process, to tailor appropriate therapy for each individual. I also strive to maximize each patient’s independence, functionality, overall quality of life, dignity and comfort.”
Dr. Wong’s other passions include martial arts, which he has practiced since he was a child. But recently, he has taken up a new hobby.
“My wife and I just had our first child, and he has been quite a handful,” he notes. “I was born and raised in the GlendaleBurbank area, and I am looking forward to sharing my hometown community with my son.”
