About Richard Greenspun, MD

Richard H. Greenspun, MD is a specialist in Internal Medicine in Santa Monica, California. He chose medicine because it allows him to be a teacher, problem solver, scientist, and confidant to his patients. He enjoys going home each day with a sense that he helped people during difficult times.

One of his career highlights was serving as a physician in the Pan Am Games and later as Chief Medical Officer for Athletics in the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. He has also served as a physician for the Los Angeles Clippers and a professional soccer team in Los Angeles. Like many doctors, Dr. Greenspun chose a medical avenue to help those in need.

After his mother’s passing, which he says was made immeasurably easier by hospice, he helped establish a new hospice in Santa Monica. For 15 years he served as its medical director. He found working with hospice patients and their families extremely rewarding and a constant reminder of why he chose to go into medicine. Dr. Greenspun was the first doctor in his family, but not the last. His oldest daughter went into medicine and now sees patients as an Internist.

Dr. Greenspun earned his medical degree at the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He went on to complete his internship and resident at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

In his time away from the office, Dr. Greenspun enjoys reading, playing golf, and cycling. Mostly, however, he and his wife can be found spending time with his daughters and four grandchildren.

My cardiologist referred Dr. Greenspun to me. I needed a regular practitioner and made the apt. I found Dr. Greenspun, friendly, caring and responsive to all my questions. He was able to communicate with my cardiologist immediately and followed up by getting me to see him the next day. I appreciate the doctor who takes care of his patients as if it were his own family. I felt this from Dr. Greenspun.
