About Pouya Shafipour, MD
Pouya Shafipour, MD, is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine in both Family and Obesity Medicine. He strongly believes in the transformative benefits of good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle when treating chronic diseases. 
Dr. Shafipour received his medical degree from the Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California. Then he went on to intern at the University of California Irvine Medical Center in Orange, California, and he began his residency training in Plastic Surgery at the prestigious University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. However, during his residency, he had the opportunity to observe the obesity epidemic and its consequences firsthand. He was devastated by the medical issues he saw caused by obesity, including chronic pain, heart disease, diabetes, and a significant reduction in life quality. As a result, Dr. Shafipour decided to change the direction of his training to primary care. He wanted to get to the root cause of the obesity epidemic and its management. So, he added training in obesity and bariatric medicine and clinical research at Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers in California, which is where he completed his residency. 
Since he completed his residency training, Dr. Shafipour has spent the last eight years managing chronic diseases through lifestyle transformation, nutrition, and exercise. He is continually educating himself by attending conferences and keeping up with the most up-to-date journals. With his hands-on philosophy, Dr. Shafipour has personally followed every diet that he prescribes, and he coaches his patients every step of the way. He has led many exercise groups for patients in the local communities, including “Walk with a Doc Los Angeles,” and he has also been a regular guest lecturer in Santa Monica on obesity and pre-diabetes.
Dr. Shafipour enjoys spending his weekends with his wife, children, and dog in his free time, mostly doing outdoor activities like hiking the local trails, going to soccer games, and basketball games. He also enjoys playing music. 
He’s terrific! I am pre-diabetic (runs in the family) and he has been as helpful and knowledgable as I possibly could hope my doctor to be.
