About Joseph Zikry, MD
Los Angeles native Dr. Joseph Zikry is a dermatologist specializing in medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Southern California, where he received a full academic scholarship and graduated with the highest honors, Summa Cum Laude. He attended the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, and was admitted into the most prestigious medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha.
After medical school, Dr. Zikry completed an internship in internal medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and completed his dermatology residency at the University of Southern California. There, he served as Chief Resident in his final year. While at USC, he had the opportunity to train at many highly recognized hospitals, including the Los Angeles County Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles and the USC/Keck Academic Center.
Dr. Zikry takes pride in providing empathetic, patient-centered care to help patients make well-informed decisions that align with their treatment goals. Skin conditions can often be socially stigmatizing, and Dr. Zikry’s ultimate goal is to help every patient feel comfortable in their skin.
Dr. Zikry stays up to date on the newest medical and surgical advancements in dermatology and utilizes evidence-based medicine when treating his patients. He has published numerous research articles in leading medical dermatologic journals, including the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery.

There was an issue with my biopsy sample he took during my visit (it did not survive the lab process and has to be re-done), and he personally called me to tell me about it, which I thought was very professional and a very nice gesture. He also offered to waive my co-pay for the return visit, which was very much appreciated. The office staff at the Playa Vista office is very freindly and the location is very convenient, in a great building too.

First visit to this doctor for a full body skin cancer exam at the recommendation of my primary care physician. Was able to schedule the checkup within 2 weeks of initial contact which is a good response for a new patient inquiring about non urgent care. Found Dr. Zirky to be knowledgeable and personable. Throughout the exam he explained the nature of different moles, pointed to the one precancerous one he recommended removing, advised on ongoing preventative care, and also addressed how to treat a potential scar after a recent injury. Overall I was impressed with him as a provider and would not hesitate to return or to recommend him to those I know.

The only snag has been that when I requested an appointment for a recheck (he told me at initial consult to return if my symptoms returned), although the desk staff were friendly and helpful, I was not able to get an appointment for the required renewed care in what I considered a timely window. My partner had an unrelated health emergency a few days before our scheduled appointment with Dr. Zikry, and I felt it would be stressful for us to keep this appointment, but I was afraid to reschedule because of my concern that I might not be seen until fall for symptoms that Dr Zikry had expressed needed prompt care. I know he is super busy, and rightly so, as he is very good! But perhaps it would be wise if scheduling staff provided a few more windows for people needing return care in a prompt timeline.
