About Eileen McGrath, MD

Eileen M. McGrath, MD, had a hero growing up that inspired her to go into the medical field. The fictional namesake of a 1970s TV show made a big impression on her. This was, of course, the genial Dr. Marcus Welby, MD, who made house calls and had an overarching love of people, thus motivating her to go into medicine.

Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. McGrath received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. She completed her internship at Providence St. John’s Health Center in Santa Monica and completed her residency at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California.

Dr. McGrath spent time in college with a family doctor, shadowing him as he tended to patients. She watched as he took care of people in jail and delivered babies in Ithaca, NY. “He was a true family doctor,” she says, and that inspired her choice of family medicine as her specialty.

Dr. McGrath is a first-generation American whose parents come from Ireland, and her Irish heritage is important to her. She makes a point of visiting the Emerald Island every couple of years, where she enjoys visiting with at least 68 first cousins. She loves the ocean, mountains, and outdoor activities. Her favorite activities are running, hiking, and biking along beach trails. She loves to travel when on vacation. Besides Ireland, her favorite places include Peru, Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, and Japan. Her bucket list destination? The 7th continent: Antarctica.

Dr. McGrath’s husband, Mark Needham, MD, also practices family medicine. Their daughter is currently in medical school at Case Western and looking forward to carrying on the family’s medical legacy. Their oldest son is a professional dancer in New York and their younger son graduated from Herb Alpert Music School at UCLA.

I have always thought highly of Eileen McGrath. She’s always been professional in every aspect. I have been a patient of hers for over 30 years, following her whenever she moved locations. I can’t say enough good things about her.

I can always depend on Dr. McGrath, responding (via "portal"), with any concerns or, to explain test results. I feel that she always has my best health interests (as I expect my doctor to have).
