About David Cutler, MD

Dr. David Cutler has been practicing family medicine in Santa Monica since 1988. After graduating cum laude from Dartmouth College and with honors from Tufts University School of Medicine he moved to California to train in Family Medicine at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. He then spent four years fulfilling a Public Health Service scholarship obligation in rural Town Creek, Alabama before returning to Santa Monica as one of the principals of the Santa Monica Family Physicians medical group.

During his time in practice Dr. Cutler has expanded his skills to become certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and perform cardiac stress tests. He has held teaching positions at UCLA for 25 years and now serves as voluntary Adjunct Associate Clinical Professor at Keck USC School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Cutler has coordinated a teaching, research and educational mission to Haiti since the devastating 2010 earthquake.

In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Cutler also serves as Chairman of the Santa Monica Family Physicians medical group. His hospital activities include chairing the Education Committee at Providence Saint John’s Health Center and sitting on the Medicine Department Committee. He has been a member of the medical staff of this hospital as well as Santa Monica UCLA medical center since 1988.

Dr. Cutler and his wife Mary, a clinical psychologist, have three grown children. The older son is a cloud software executive. He and his wife, an LAUSD teacher, have a Cutler grandchild. The Cutlers’ daughter completed medical school and two years of training in Emergency Medicine at USC before working with her father during the covid pandemic in the Santa Monica Family Physicians urgent care office. Starting in July 2021 she will be living in Minneapolis with her husband as she completes her training in Dermatology. A younger son lives in Santa Monica, works for Citi National Bank and has a passion for surfing.

The Cutler family enjoys adventurous vacations together doing things like scuba diving, boating and exploring distant cultures. In 2004 they spent six months living, working and going to school in New Zealand. Other travels have taken them to Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and South America. They look forward to the world opening up again after the pandemic.

Dr. Cutler is fantastic. Had major trauma, was hospitalized, and Dr. Cutler saw me same day on short notice. Also got me referrals to specialist that same day.

I love Doctor Cutler, he is kind, knowledgable and he listens - he could work on his understanding of the menopausal state , the changes and hormone inbalances that come with menopause are real, they affect so many aspects of our health and I feel that he doesn't quite believe that to be true fact. Keeping a food diary is not going to help with hormone depletion , he can do better for the 50% of the human population who go through this phase of life.
