About Anton Bilchik, MD
Anton J. Bilchik, MD, Ph.D., MBA, FACS, is certified by the American Board of Surgery in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He is a Professor of Surgery at the John Wayne Cancer Institute and Chief of General Surgery at Providence Saint John’s Health Center-Cancer Institute. Dr. Bilchik serves on the editorial boards of many peer-review journals and currently serves on the board of the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and the Saint John’s Cancer Institute. Internationally recognized as a surgeon and scientist, he has pioneered techniques to improve staging in colon cancer and minimally invasive approaches for liver and pancreas cancer. With his caring and attentive attitude, along with his world-class surgical expertise, it is no wonder why he is loved and trusted by patients and colleagues alike. 
Dr. Bilchik also is committed to community outreach programs for underserved communities where he teaches about early detection and cancer prevention. Dr. Bilchik believes in a personalized approach to cancer care and that physicians should treat every patient with dignity and compassion with access to the most current treatments available. 
Besides being a world-class surgeon, Dr. Bilchik also serves as an investigator on international clinical trials. With over 200 publications, he is considered one of the country’s leading specialists in surgical oncology. He has received numerous awards, recognitions, and accolades, including the Duke Award, a special service award for his contribution to science and humanity. He is also the first physician to be honored with the Anti-Defamation League’s prestigious annual humanitarian award. Dr. Bilchik has received competitive research funding from the National Cancer Institute, and his research publications have contributed to improving quality standards in cancer care. He has received honors for his life-changing cancer research by both the American College of Surgeons and the American Cancer Society. The American Surgical Association has listed him as one of “America’s Top Surgeons” for ten years in a row. US World News and Report ranked him in the top 1% of physicians in the country in 2013, and Newsweek Magazine listed him as one of the leading cancer doctors in the country in 2015. 
Dr. Bilchik earned his medical degree at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He went on to intern at both the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital Parktown in Johannesburg, Gauteng. And when he moved to the United States, he interned again at the Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut, with a GI Surgical specialty. He served his residency at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles in General Surgery, followed by two fellowships. One fellowship was at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California, in Surgical Oncology. The second was at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles in Surgical Research.

We had a virtual appointment within 3 days of my calling his office. He explained the issues re: my diverticulitis and the risks of future episodes. He recommended colon surgery, which I am going to do. I trust him implicitly, knowing several people he has operated on with colon issues. He is truly the kindest, nicest, and best doctor I have ever known.
