Anita Gorwara, MD
Medical Director, Urgent Care SJPP – Family Medicine
About Anita Gorwara, MD
Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Anita M. Gorwara, MD was inspired to become a family physician while she was at Boarding School in Northern India. She was 14 when she met her hero in the form of the physician who treated her at one point when she had become very ill. As a result of her illness, Dr. Gorwara was able to observe first-hand how a doctor could make a clinical diagnosis with limited resources and testing. Her doctor treated her appropriately based on symptoms and examination only. It was not only his intelligence, but the compassion he showed her as he visited her in the hospital every day for a month, that drove her to become a family physician. To say that she was influenced by the school doctor who visited her in the infirmary daily would be an understatement.
Dr. Gorwara completed her medical training at the Grant Medical College (University of Mumbai) in Mumbai, India, and she completed her internship and residency at the Christiana Care Health Services in Wilmington, Delaware.
Dr. Gorwara loves getting to know her patients and their families, not only on a professional level but a personal one as well. She believes that the greatest joy a family physician can have is taking care of an entire family and really getting to know her patients. Women of all ages gravitate to her because she is known to be a strong advocate for women’s health care.
Dr. Gorwara is a part of Global Medical Brigades, which is a volunteer non-profit international movement of medical professionals. These volunteers work alongside local communities to set up sustainable health systems. She recently traveled to Nicaragua with her 16-year-old son where they worked together and helped develop a health care system for an impoverished community. Perhaps her son will follow in her footsteps.
When not with patients, Dr. Gorwara likes to ride bikes, hike, and run. She has two teenage boys, and she enjoys spending all her free time with them. She likes to combine both her Indian and Welsh heritage to create unique dishes, and her family says she is an excellent cook!
Dr Gorwara has always been very understanding of my many conditions, i remember what it was like to be a younger woman, and I believe it must be hard to imagine what it feels like to be older and in pain. Nevertheless she listens with patience and tries to refer me to the correct specialists. I feel very lucky to have a practice that is so close by and so aesthetically pleasing, not to mention friendly!

Providence PatientThey are very good, punctual, great referrals. Sometimes I would like more than meeting the service and maybe extra insights. Sometimes I feel like I have to suggest something.
