About Steven Seizer, MD
Steven P. Seizer, MD, has been practicing medicine in Santa Monica for over 30 years. 
Dr. Seizer’s journey into medicine was strongly influenced by his grandfather, who emigrated from Russia when he was 13. His grandfather spoke little English, but he dreamed of becoming a doctor. Being a young immigrant, medical school was well beyond his budget, but a degree at Columbia University wasn’t, thanks to a scholarship. He became a writer and created and produced Marcus Welby, MD, the top-rated television show that featured the beloved family physician known for his exceptional bedside manner. This fictional doctor was the hero and inspiration that launched the careers of many doctors all over the country, and parts of the show were filmed right here at Saint John’s Health Center, where his grandson, Dr. Seizer, practices today. Happily, his patients all agree that Dr. Seizer has inherited the fictional Dr. Marcus Welby’s comforting bedside manner. 
Dr. Seizer enjoys practicing medicine, finding the open and honest interaction between patient and doctor very fulfilling. He keeps up on the newest advances in science and medicine so he can always make the most accurate diagnosis and create a personalized treatment plan for each patient. 
Dr. Seizer believes in preventive care. In addition to Family Medicine, he pursued additional training in, and has extensive experience performing, colonoscopy. Dr. Seizer finds this procedure to be very effective at preventing colorectal cancer. He highly recommends it for all patients, according to appropriate guidelines.
Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Seizer received his medical degree from the UCSF School of Medicine in San Francisco, California. He then completed internship and residency at Santa Monica Hospital’s Family Medicine Program.
Dr. Seizer has three sons, the eldest of whom is pursuing a premedical education, continuing the family’s love of medicine. When not working, he enjoys running, especially on trails in the local mountains, as well as beach volleyball. He is always eager for family time, and tries to play a little golf with his father. Dr. Seizer practices what he preaches: he gets regular exercise to stay fit and healthy.

I have seen Dr Seizer for years and have moved with him from at least two other affiliations. I have often had negative experiences with male drs who were patronizing and impatient and uninformed about differences to consider when treating women. Dr Seizer is none of those things-he is always informed about the field and about my own history. He is congenial and professional and genuinely friendly. I credit him with restoring my faith in doctors-because of him I have been on a solid and regular path of caring for myself and ensuring that I follow all recommendations as I age. His office, nurses and PAs are efficient and courteous. Finally, Dr Seizer believes in science, the efficacy of vaccines (I'm the daughter of a polio survivor), and medically-informed care. I am one of the people will quit a practice or cancel a subscription or call my congressperson when I detect ethical uncertainty or weakness in taking a position. These considerations also inform my appreciation of Dr Seizer. I appreciate having the opportunity to share my thoughts about such a stellar physician.

Dr. Seizer saw me on an expedited manner due to my concerns about healing of a previously bloody leg wound. Initially, the front desk did not have any space within a close time frame, even with the Physician's Assistant. Dr. Seizer came back and created a space for a brief visit that afternoon with him. Because he is always very thorough, he used the opportunity to take blood for a followup HA1c, which I had had 3 months prior. I usually email Dr. Seizer with non-urgent medical questions, and he ALWAYS responds quickly; even on weekends! If I need to come in, he tells me that. Patient care does not get any better than that.

I was having extreme pain issues and when I contacted Dr. Seiser's office I was able to get care very quickly. When the issues escalated and I required quick pre-op care, I received immediate response and was able to complete all tests and exams to in time for the operation.
