About Janice Miyakawa, MD

Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Janice K. Miyakawa, MD is a second-generation Los Angelino. She started medical school with the intention of going into research because she was intrigued by scientific exploration and the quest to find health solutions. But during clinical rotations while in medical school, she fell in love with caring for people, who she describes as endearing, challenging and constantly interesting.

Dr. Miyakawa completed her medical training at the UCLA Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles. She then went on to complete her internship and residency at the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica, California.

Like her parents before her, Dr. Miyakawa believes that education is fundamental, and she likes to keep her patients informed and actively participating in their health choices. She believes that in this way they are more likely to succeed at staying healthy. Although she is trained in standard western medicine, she also respects other forms of the healing arts that stand up to scientific inquiry.

When not working with her patients Dr. Miyakawa enjoys ballroom dancing, swimming, playing the piano, listening to live music, gardening, and tai chi. She also enjoys sculling (the use of oars to propel a long, narrow boat with a sliding seat and rigged with two oars). And of course she is most proud of what she considers her greatest achievement; her twins and their accomplishments in college.

Dr Miyakawa always listens to all your concerns and answers so you understand everything. very patient and caring Doctor

Dr Miyakawa is amazing doctor. At my last appointment she did not have an assistant and we go bogged down typing Into Epic. For an Annual - I thought I was coming in for a follow-up - but it was an annual - I think you send out a list of questions that I can answer ahead of time - for example date of last eye exam. That would make the process faster.

My primary care ;provider, Dr. Miyakawa, is wonderful. This visit was more to talk to her about my recent visiits with my cancer doctorAnd to ask her a few questions. She has to get back to me regarding one question.

Very attentive to the patient's total care, including inquiring and knowing about multiple factors that may influence the medical and mental health of the patient; thorough and patient.
