Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Julia R. Blank, MD says that becoming a physician was a matter of serendipity meeting destiny.
Dr. Blank’s hero growing up was her grandmother, who was an OB/GYN with a home office, and as a child, Dr. Blank loved spending her summers there. She thoroughly enjoyed hanging out in the waiting room, chatting with her grandmother’s patients.
Virtually every conversation with her parents would inevitably include at least one comment that started with, “When you’re a doctor …” Dr. Blank feels very blessed that the family trade — practicing medicine — is something she loves doing.
Dr. Blank received her medical degree from the Albany Medical College of Union University in New York. She completed both her internship and residency at the Bryn Mawr Hospital in Pennsylvania. Dr. Blank moved to Los Angeles in 2003 where she has been practicing ever since.
One aspect of practicing medicine that Dr. Blank likes most is taking care of her patients over the long term. She enjoys getting to know them and their families, and helping them to understand how their life choices impact their health.
When not working or keeping current on the latest medical research, Dr. Blank loves hiking and doing other outdoor activities with her children. She also enjoys reading and playing the piano. In fact, before medical school, she enjoyed picking up occasional gigs playing lounge music, or as a piano accompanist. Her favorite vacation spots are the Amalfi coast or the Cotswold’s. And if those aren’t in the cards, then her next favorite vacation spot is at home spending time with her family.

Dr Blank understood my concern. Was professional and thorough, but also concerned. I had an infection for several weeks and it was not getting better after being treated for suspected oral shingles. My original dentist did not recognize a problem with a tooth - in fact said he found nothing to be concerned about. Dr Blank insisted that they get a detailed xray of the tooth root, and prescribed antibiotics until I could get in to see a referring endodontist. She was exactly right. A 3D xray showed a dead nerve in the tooth, an infection, bone loss and tooth degradation. An Urgent root canal was required. I had the root canal already, the infection is subsiding, and I'm already feeling better. Please thank her for me.

I've always felt well cared for by this physician/practice. When I indicated a person did not get back to me with test results, I always get an email telling me to go to My Chart for test results...so I always get them in a timely manner - just not from the doctor by telephone or follow up visit if that is what you were asking. The doctor does make a note in My Chart If everything is fine, and I'm sure I would hear immediately if something were wrong.

I see Dr. Blank for annual physicals. She is thorough, knowledgeable, kind, and I have been very pleased with all of the providers she has referred me to for imaging, colonoscopy, ophthalmology, and dermatology. My only complaint is that the time it takes to schedule my annual physical. Because physicals are not urgent, it can take three months to get in. I once had an unforseen conflict and had to wait several more months. Then, that appointment was canceled by the office because of a conflict that came up for Dr. Blank. The rescheduling took another several months.
