January 12th, 2002 A visit to the Nashua Children’s Home!
Funny how things work out, we went with crafts and games, and used almost none of it. The majority of the time we played a totally off-the-hook kickball game in the gym at NCH. The kids were so enjoying that, who could put an end to it? It was difficult enough to end the visit when our time was up, everyone wanted to just continue to play and have fun!
The event started with a nice tour of the house. It is a nice older place with bedrooms, kitchens and carpeting. It looked like any other house that you might visit, except this house has like a zillion kids in it! Regular kids. Beautiful children of God. It felt good to be there.
Besides a big house, there is also a large gym attached to the back. This is where we did our thing. We had eleven CTW members and nine of the NCH kids. The recipe was simple, take a handful of older teens, add a handful of preteens, mix them in a gymnasium and presto! A great time was had by all!
The first event was the largest "simon says" game in the world. Then the kickball game started. After that the NCH kids went off to fix us some snack and the CTW kids stayed and pow-wow’ed for a few minutes. It was so sweet, the NCH kids really liked us and were hanging on us like kids do and it was easy to fall in love with them. I don’t know what I was expecting, but these are normal, regular kids, worthy of all the love that God has to offer. The saddest part was knowing that the reason they are there is because they were removed from their homes by the courts. Let’s pray that these kind of homes someday are no longer needed. The whole CTW group can not wait to go back!
Many thanks to all who helped make this such a fun event, and to all of you have remembered us in your prayers. And most especially to the CTW members who are seeing the difference one person can make when guided by the Holy Spirit. Little by little, the world changes for the better.
If you see a member of Change the World, talk to them about the service that they are involved in. Pray with them, pray with others for them. Ask that the hand of God be with them.
